Day 5 Reflection by Eik Kar

The day was an eventful one. We visited the Mekong Delta, as well as visit the Island of the Unicorn nearby, which is believed by the natives to symbolize knowledge. Hence we were brought there by boat. We were explained by the tour guide about how the natives of the Islands lived and their way of life. When we reached the island, we were treated to their local delicacies. I was touched by their warm welcome towards us strangers. Following their warm welcome, we tracked through a forest path, towards the river that flowed through the island. In groups of 4, we took rides on small native boats. There were 2 natives on each boat, one at the back and the other at the front. They pedalled with ease, and they were very friendly towards us. Soon we reached the jetty and boarded a bigger boat and left for the mainland.

Soon after lunch, we went back to the city to visit the History Museum in Ho Chi Minh city. I learned many amazing facts about the history of Vietnam. For example, the kingdom of vietnam once defeated the Monguls, which at that point in history, was the greatest military force the world had ever seen. Following a tour of the musuem, we went to watch the world famous Water Puppet Show, a performance exclusive to Vietnam. It was an amazing performance.

I learned a lot throughout the day, particually how culturally rich the People of Vietnam are and I also learned to broaden my outlook on the culture of foreign countries.
